04 - mona lisa

Here's a little project I did a few days ago. Did the line work in a nifty liner pen, coloured and textured in Photoshop.

The Mona Lisa is arguably the most parodied painting there is out there probably so because it is so recognisable, not just in the art community but in the general public itself. I decided to have a go at it as well.

It's official identity is place on one Lisa del Giocondo wife of Francesco del Giocondo who was a very wealthy silk merchant. It was a commission for their new home and to celebrate the birth of their second son. Da Vinci only completed the painting short before his death, which makes that one delayed commission. By this I assume that the painting never made it to the family home; or maybe they canceled the commission. In any case, it was sold to King Francois I and hopped around dodging revolutions, dictators, and other such causality of humanity to eventually end up in Musée du Louvre in Paris to this day.

"La Gioconda" is a sort of nickname Da Vinci used for the piece, which is a play on her surname meaning happy or jovial.
